Hey everybody! I have a 2009 street bob. I think I have an issue with my bike that is far beyond my capability and knowledge level. About 2 years ago I bought a lithium ion battery from harley because my previous one kept dying. I put my lithium ion battery on and noticed that it started to die too. So I know I have a draw issue somewhere. I kept it on the trickle charger which kept it where I needed and never had an issue starting the bike. A month ago I went on a ride. I was about 45 minutes in when I came to a stop light and heard my bike in a “high idle”. I checked my throttle cable and it seemed fine. I thought it was weird but finished I would just finish my ride home cause I was only about 2 miles away. I got on to an open highway and was going about 65 mph. All of a sudden I lost all power to my bike. My oil light came on as well as my check engine light. I pulled over and checked all that I could on the side of the road. I tried to start my bike again and heard nothing but the click of the starter. I got it towed home and took my lithium battery out. I’m not kidding when I say this thing weighed less than a pound. It was almost like it was just the plastic cover of the battery and nothing else. So I knew my battery was shot but why? I decided to start digging. After reading some forums and looking into the issue I heard it could be my voltage regulator, my stator, or just the need for a new battery. I bought all three. I first replaced my voltage regulator and also put in the new battery. I figured I would try to start it without replacing stator and just check to my voltage on my battery to make sure it’s operating normally while the bike is started. I turn the ignition switch over and I have power to my bike. When I turn my kill switch over I don’t hear that electronic wine that you typically hear before actually cranking over the bike. My oil light is still on (oil level is absolutely perfect) and my check engine light is on. I’ve checked al my fuses as well and none appear to be fouled. Do I need to reset something in my ECM do I need to replace my ECM? I’m extremely lost and don’t know where to go next. I’m trying my hardest to not take it to a dealership. If anybody has any suggestions I would greatly appreciate it!
7. If you do not have the equipment, tools or knowledge to analyze the electrical system, best take it to a dealer or independent and have them service it.
8. Put your postings in smaller paragraphs so it is easier to read.
I understood Ion batteries required a "special" tickle charger.
Maybe the one you are using is killing your batt?
No whine comment.
Do you mean the fuel pump priming?
You lost power but dash gauges were working?
Perhaps a fuel issue.
But voltage meter, service manual and testing to find a draw (or wiring issue) would be the a good step.
And finding and computer codes will be a great lead in diagnosing
