Default Harley Oil Filters.

Hi Everyone.
Yesterday, I grabbed a new oil filter at the Harley dealer.
Today while changing oil , I discover the new filter is 1/2 inch longer than the old Harley filter.

Did I buy the wrong filter ?
Is this longer filter ok on my bike ?
My bike is 2010 twin cam 103. E-Glide.

Thanks.
SG.

My dealer has the oil filters displayed nicely by engine. I know the 88-103 use the same filter, I’m not sure after that. The longer one is probably for a M8 and is probably ok. What’s the part number?

The longer filter is for the M8. Some have claimed to use the on 103 . The problem is the crank sensor on 103 TC engine is in the way. On the M8 they moved it. It will not hurt using the longer filter on older TC engines.

Dealers open today, give them a call. I assume you already installed it? If so, and it cleared the crank sensor then, as others have said, it's probably no big deal. I know the filters for the Twin Cam are rated for 5 microns because they supposedly require finer filtration. Have no idea about M8 filters.

If it was me, for the price of another oil filter and a few ounces of oil I would change it just because I'm a little OCD about that kind of stuff

The long filter is also 5 micron. The difference is something like 25% more filter media.

Hello again.

I decided to go back to dealer yesterday and get the correct (shorter) filter.

Because I did note that after spinning the longer filter on , it was almost touching a sensor that is attached to the casing.casing.

There was no room left to be able to put on the oil filter wrench, which would be necessary to remove it once it goes through a couple heat cycles. So, went back and got the proper filter.
Thank you for your replies !!
