Default Drain plug leak

On my 01 road king I have a very small leak from my transmission drain plug.

I've tried a new plug and a new o ring. I have these orange o rings, does it look like in the pic the o ring is in the right place after I tightened the plug?

Thanks guys.

Looks like it should seal-up...maybe the pan threads are bad? Have you tried thread sealer (e.g. plumber's tape) on the plug?

I don't see that much o-ring sticking out when I tighten mine. Is the o-ring the same size as the original? And if it's not an OEM o-ring I'd try one of those along with a little thread take and torque the bolt to to spec.

Looks over torqued to me, O ring may be out of position.

You have the wrong o-ring.

You should not see the o-ring when the plug is tightened up.

The plug is sealed by the o-ring, there is no need for thread sealant, it does nothing to seal the plug (and is not called for by the service manual).

Thanks guys.

These o rings were suppose to be the right ones. I guess I need to get some OEM Harley o rings. I'll try to get some ordered.

You don't have to order o-rings. Determine the correct size and get some from Ace Hardware or someplace like that.

pretty sure there's a little recessed area on the plug that the o-ring seats into (at base of threads), and agree with Dan^^ above I don't recall mine ever squishing outward like your pic.

I bought a big bag of o-rings off Ebay for the bike. Sure, can get at dealer (did that a time or few) but then went the bulk route.

don't overtorque

Yeah these are the current o rings I have, they are the right size unless I got a defective batch.

Harley o rings Harley o rings

If I'm understanding you guys correctly, once I tighten it the oring should be up in the hole and the face of the plug meets the pan metal to metal?
