Can anyone tell me if the 2012 Road King has the automatic primary chain tensioner? Are there inherent issues with that auto tensioner over tightening the primary chain? Is there a fix for it if its a problem? Asking for my riding buddy, he is waiting for the Service Manual to be shipped so until it comes we have nowhere to find out except go in and look.
Thanks for your help
I found out that from about 2006 and later Harley replaced the old style non-self adjusting primary chain tensioner with a self adjusting tensioner.
Is this self adjuster reliable? I am reading that some tighten out of tolerance without warning. Sounds like going back to manual adjusting tensioner might be a wise thing to do.
We are deciding whether or not to change this 2012 RK to manually adjustable tensioners.
Is this a good route to take?
thanks!

Yes it does. They came out in 06 on Dynas and the rest in 07.. Early ones 06-08 had issues but were improved.. Still I have 114000 miles on one. If it ain't broke don't fix it...
