Being a harley tech section, and that they plug in under the side cover a harley, I was thinking credit card scanners for strippers. But feel free to say anyone you use. I realize with all these phone apps any self respecting dealer has his own now.
@alexandrabeen Probably one of these............. Guess they use 12 vdc, maybe not, might use warp drive power...........................
From what you have told us about your harley experience, I am not surprised that is what you came up with. Though I believe the one you used was the same as Bones.
Does the scanner not get power from the diagnostic connector? AC to DC power supply will work if you need 12 volts. Use a regulated and filtered supply. The ripple from old transformer type battery chargers isn't good for electronics. Old wall warts are unregulated and rely on a specific amount of current being drawn to pull the voltage down. Modern switching types are OK.
I used a power supply to for the timing light when I was working on an Evo last year. It seemed more convenient and has short circuit protection.
