TTS locking ECM
TL;DR: Can TTS be configured to leave the ECM unlocked or does using the TTS require it to be locked? Do powervision, centurion, or other tuning devices lock the ecm to this same degree? Am I just a cry baby?
There is a check box that indicates “locked” and “unlocked” when i select an interface. I leave it indicating “unlocked” but my centurion still wont connect to ecm as I was hoping. Maybe Im just doing it wrong and I hope they can be configured to allow that sort of connection since it would make maintaining these bikes a little simpler. Example of what I mean below.
I was working on a TTS bike recently and was already plugged into it for diagnostics. I wanted to turn off the ACR’s to get a good compression reading which would be a push of the button on both my texa txb and my centurion, but in this case I could not because the ECM had been locked and while the tuner was with the bike the correct cable was not. Disconnecting the fuel and lifting the tank to unplug them and run the test was simple enough, but it was still frustrating that it was necessary to begin with. I can buy a couple of cables for next time no problem.
Ive read here In several posts where Steve Cole explains that the TTS locking the ECM isn’t unusual for tuners and that even from the factory the ECM comes locked. While I understand his point I don't have any problem connecting to factory fresh bikes with my diagnostic tools and needing two different tools, one of which relies on the customer to keep up with their stuff, to work on one bike doesn't exactly streamline the process.
