The reason filters get stuck is because there is no lube on the gasket.
Yes, the above and someone tightened the ever-loving **** out of it. Most people know oil filters should only be hand tightened. When you go to remove them they will be tight but not unremovable.
@bherder Why? What failure? I've used K&N many times over the years.
Yea I'm curious also.
Over the years I have gathered ever tool shown in this thread and used all of them at one time or another.
The strap wrench has been the go to tool for a filter really stuck time in and time out.
@WP50 I've ordered the cup filter tool, but might also order the strap one just in case. Everything takes over a week to arrive here so it's not a lot of extra money if I can get the filter off the bike, and I also have an extra tool in my arsenal for the future.

Since you have the cup tool coming already just do the self tapping screw thing.
It works quite well also.
My 2019 Low Rider is overdue for an oil and filter change (the dealer lied about the last change) - but it seems like the filter is welded in place. Any advice on how to remove it? Do I have to remove the oil cooler in the front of the frame to access the filter? I can't buy a fluted filter tool anywhere locally, and even then I doubt whether it would budge the filter. Thanks for any suggestions.
Might not help you out right now, but for future needs look into the Rivco Oil Filter Wrench. This will take them off no matter how tight they are. These fit OEM filters with 14 flats. Some aftermarket filters are different.
