Another good shop is Valley Racing in Beecher.
Thank you, Sugar Grove is about 1.5 hrs away from me but I don't have a choice I suppose.

As has been stated, find a good Indy to speak to. And as mentioned Valley Racing is a shop that knows what's what.

My best guess is since you have drag pipes, you may never be able to get the carburetor adjusted / jetted to make the motor run 100% correct. Lolli Pops are a good way to tame drag pipes so the carburetor can be adjusted / jetted.

You are not a regular customer and not broke down, so maybe not a priority.

Turn the idle screw in a hair. I have not had mine on tach. You could buy one for testing.

Google around for jet sizes people have used. Not like carbs have lots of options. Try going up one from factory.

They want to know if you want it Dynoed, to get it perfect. I did that once after a build. Shimmed the needle, when I eventually had time

Not sure if you've seen this now long thread, but I've gotten plenty of help there: Cleaning up the Carburetor

There is an old timer in Island Lake that can probably help you out. His shop looks like Fred Sanfords. LOL! The name of the place is Dale's MC. It's right off of Rt. 176 just west of Roberts Road. Here is a link to Yelp for his business. I never took my bike there even though I used to live in that area and drove by it a million times. Well, I went there once hoping he could put a new tire on the rim for me but he wasn't around and I kind of got the feeling if it wasn't carbureted he probably didn't work on it. A buddy of mine had an old Sportster that he took to him a few times.

Hope this helps. Definitely call before going as I thinks he makes up his own hours. https://www.yelp.com/biz/dales-harle...d-lake#reviews

Even back in the 90's when a bike had a carb I got very frustrated as my carb was never right even after paying a few mechanics to add the thunder kit or whatever it was called so I ended up paying Harley to install a S&S but I then spent the time asking questions and reading the instructions and I changed all the jets and spent hours doing it "right" myself and I know nothing more than how to change a spark plug, With the internet now I bet you can do this as my thought back then is no mechanic will spend the time I can on my own bike trying to get it set up perfect.
Just a thought may want to try it yourself as i'm sure some YouTube videos are around?

I agree with a couple posters , there's a reason they call them drag pipes , good idle characteristics are not a feature of drag pipes. You may want to consider changing your exhaust, unless your drag racing it will perform better at normal riding RPMs , maybe talk to the shop you end up working with about it .

Thanks gents. I think I'm done with the fiddling with the bike and will just deal with it the way it is. I have spent time reading and watching videos re my issue and I've done the best I could. I mean, there's no guarantee that even a good mechanic would resolve the issue - there's just too many variables in the picture

idle quality and drags, hummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
i see no issue.
a carb is a dirty port devise and as such, it also has air passages that can become blocked. all the spray in the world will not get there. besides the dip in the curve, drags can be tuned for the street, just need patience.
i would do an ultra sound bath clean of the carb if you have one, a chem-dip bucket cleaner can help. but remove all parts that can be damaged.
if the machine has setup, sometimes the aluminum passages can corrode and the aluminum will bloom and block passages. a bath in a mild aluminum cleaner can help but if bad enough, you got a paper weight.
if the carb is old, might be cheaper to replace.
do not over look the enrichner plunger seal, if bad, can draw up extra fuel especially at idle as that is where the vac signal is highest.
