Default How to do away with external oil filter??

I have a 1981 Harley fxwg, I’m in the process of turning It into flh but my question is how do I get rid of external oil filter, I want to use the drop in oil filter but wasn’t sure how to take off the external one it sticks out of the side of the bike just don’t like the look.

first, pictures says a lot as not all tank had the filter option
identify the tank ports as if you screw up, you will kill your engine as most tanks use a stand pipe on the return
identify the scavenge port on your pump and run a line from there to tank return
spin on is way better and can be placed in a less intrusive location.

Is the filter mounted on the side of the (aftermarket) oil tank?

When Harley or a owner somewhere along the line did that, they were proud it had a better filter or thought that.

The original design filter is behind that cap I thought.

I have always assumed somewhere along the line, Harleys with a filter on the return side of oil leaving the engine at one time didn't have a filter. Is that true?

oil from scavenge goes to the line port below the cap. the other on to is the equalizing line that ties the tank back to the engine crankcase and the one on the bottom is your feed to the pump. you can get aftermarket drop in kits.
one note is sometimes that cartridge filter is hard to get so if you convert, buy plenty of them.
if there is room, you can use a front frame engine plate.
