Default 06 Model Year Information

August 3, 2005
2006 Model Year Information
• There are 4 Initial Care Programs that you need to review. They are:
1. 2006 Advanced Audio System Initial Care Program – Service bulletin M-1173
2. 2006 Dyna Initial Care Program – Service Bulletin M-1174
3. 2006 Sportster Powertrain Initial Care Program – Service Bulletin M-1175
4. 2006 Buell XB Initial Care Program – Service Bulletin B-061
• 2006 Dyna Models:
1. During the Initial Care period the maintenance schedule for primary chain lubricant
and transmission lubricant will be shortened. All lubricants should be changed and
inspected at 1000 miles, then every 5000 miles thereafter as part of this program.
Notify the Initial Care team of any concerns noted during these inspections. As this
differs from published maintenance intervals please review this with your customer
at point of sale and vehicle delivery.
2. There are 2 different front brake rotors used depending on if the wheel is a cast
wheel or a spoke wheel. This is normal.
• The 2006 Model Year Technical Forum is posted on the Service page of h-dnet and
should be reviewed by all dealership staff.
• The Auto mechanical primary chain tensioner that is O.E. on the Dyna model is not
retrofittable. However there is a P&A auto mechanical primary chain tensioner (Part #
40063-05) that will fit the earlier models. (see catalog for fitments)
• 2006 Advanced Audio System:
1. No retro-fits available
2. This system uses 2 Ohm speakers and they are not interchangeable with earlier
radios nor may you use the earlier speakers on this system.
3. The current CD changer (77184-01) is not compatible with this radio and there is
not a CD changer available for the 2006 radio.
4. There is a list of compatible phones for the Bluetooth Hands Free Cell Phone
Interface on the Touring page of Harley-Davidson.com.
• The new Auxiliary lamps will not retro-fit due to the different connector needed.
• The 2006 Buell XB12 interactive exhaust actuator has been revised and is now rigid
mounted to the air cleaner cover. The interactive exhaust actuator that was used prior
to the 2006 model year should not be rigid mounted.
• The inlet for the airbox is now located in the intake cover assembly on all 2006 Buell
XB models. Certain accessories, like tank bags, may cover or restrict the air intake
screen on the intake cover assembly, which may reduce power and performance.
Earlier model year intake covers without the air intake screen should not be installed
on 2006 models. Make sure that your Sales and Parts department personnel are
made aware of this.
• All 2006 XB Buell models now use the same reduced effort clutch spring (37934-06).
The new clutch spring reduces the clutch lever effort 15% on 984cc and 22% on
1203cc models. The new clutch spring can be installed on all previous XB models.
• 2006 XL Models have an unused Christmas tree plug on the regulator wire. This plug
is used for previous years but not for 06. It will hang off the harness but there is not a
hole to plug it into.
• The Screamin’ Eagle Pro “Bigger-Bore” Cylinder Kits require crankcase machining by
a qualified machinist.
