Default Full face helmet users...

Not sure if this is the right place to ask but if not, mods/admin can move it... anyway, in all years of riding, I've never owned or used a full face helmet. I just bought one yesterday for really cold weather riding but have now realized the these things fog up ALOT! At one point, I had to pull off a busy street because I couldn't see where I was going... not good! What do you full face wearers do to combat this problem? BTW, the helmet I bought was a Shoei TZ-1.

I usually try to open a vent to let a little air through (anyway I get tired of smelling my own breath) along with using some anti-fog lens cleaner. Typically snow skiers have a good handle on these products and I have bought some of the best up in Purgatory, etc. in Colorado.

Foggin' up? Whaddaya thinin' 'bout? Do have the vents? Usually you can crack the front face or open one vent.

The scuba trick works, believe it or not. They also sell a product at most dive shops that you wipe on the inside of the shield...it will prevent it as well if you're not wanting to spit on the helmet...

Ride with the vents open and/or open the face shield a little bit.

The helmet has vents and they might even work, if I removed the windshield [:'(] Actually, what I noticed was that at highway speed the fogging was not bad if at all. The biggest problem is when stopping at intersections... opening the shield up a little helped but isn't reall easy with the insulated gloves on... I always wondered why divers "spit" in their masks. Now I know.

Stop breathing so heavy...........

As a Scuba Diver (OK Pilot, let me have it- I am certified Nitrox...Yeah, Yeah- I know), the spit thing works but you don't want to do that on a bike shield. Why? Take this simple test-

All together now:

1. Lick the back of you hand once with your tongue
2. Wait 10 Seconds
3. Smell it!

No Joke- Bad Breath comes from the tongue. In diving, there is tons of seawater and always some inside the mask. Not an issue since nose is sealed and you breathe thru mouth. The best advice is to visit a Dive shop and buy a bottle (Real cheap too) of Fog Off, or other fogging inhibitor! These are safe for your shield, and your helmet won't have shield breath.

Your turn pilot!

Bruce,

I'm a certified diver as well, good times. I couldn't remember the name of "Fog Off". It really does work well though.

I've never had the inside of my helmet fog up...I guess he's getting pretty excited when on the bike, and I don't blame him for that. Maybe he has a hottie sitting behind him giving him a little squeeze every now and again!
