Default Fluid leak after accident

I am fairly new to riding and recently have purchased a 02 FLSTF. A few weeks ago I was riding and during a series of weird circumstances had a very slow speed (2-3 mph) accident where the bike slid out from under me at a stop light. Very little physical damage (scratched the pegs, grips), but there was some fluid on the ground and the primary cover and I suspected there might be some serious problem. Since I was in the middle of the street at night I had to get the bike up and home before examining the damage. After cleaning off the fluid and thoroughly examining the bike I could find no source for the leak and no additional leakage has occurred. I am not a mechanic and have not had a chance to take it to the shop yet. Any idea where the fluid came from and how serious this might be? Thanks in advance for any assistance. BTW It sucks that this had to be my first post.[:@]

I believe the is a vent hose that stick up between the transmission and inner primary. I have seen fluid come from this when the bike is on its side.

What did it taste like?

If it was sweet and sticky, it was the barbeque sauce from the cage in front of you

Hi Lock69, it would have been nicer to greet you under happier circumstanses, but welcome to the HDForum from New Zealand anyway, I am sure the leak will turn out to be minor!!! [sm=welcomesign.gif]

Sounds like the bike fell on the left side and the leak you saw could probably be the trans oil that leaks out the vent tube behind the primary. You'll probably find remains of the oil on the back of the primary cover where it leaked out ot. If you saw any substantial amount, check the oil level in the transmission. It doesn't take much oil to make a puddle.

Thank all of you for your help and being so welcoming. The bike was down on the left side and the fluid was on the primary. I am going to check all of the fluid levels to see what is low. I have already replaced all of the parts that were damaged and am ready to ride again once I get this mystery solved. Again, thank all of you for your help.
