Need some help
Hello, everyone I just found this site so far it looks pretty cool. I need some help with a problem. I just joined the HD family a month ago. Even though the weather in Mid Missouri is warm today, cold tomorrow right now, I have been able to do some riding. I just bought a 883 custom and the grips are a smaller diameter than the ones on my old bike (Honda Shadow, forgive me I'm a new Discovery Channel biker) and after about 5 miles of highway riding my hands become cramped and eventually will go numb. Would getting some bigger diameter grips help or am I just being a wimp and eventually get used to it?
I hate to one to agree with everyone else on these issues, but a larger (i.e. cushion) grip would make a big difference. I had installed some of the slick looking chrome and rubber ribbed grips and after a while a ripped those puppies off and installed some cushion grips. Sometimes we have to go for comfort over appearance…. (that’s what my wife says anyway…)

Just go by the Harley shop and plop down about 75 bucks and get a new set of larger diameter grips. The two HD's I've owned, that's one of the first things I've done. I've found with larger diameter grips, wearing my riding gloves, I can loosen my hand and the friction between the gloves and grips hold the throttle steady.

Welcome to the family. The first thing to go on any bike is the grips. The stock harley grip are always junk. They are too small, and smooth for any comfy riding. I have used the Kuryakyn Iso-Grips on the last 2 bikes I have had and they are the best grips I have found out there. All my fiends are riding them and some use the throttle boss and some don't. I personally don't as I have cruise control. Check them out and you won't be disappointed. They won't break your wallet either at about 60 bucks a pair. Check out mandmcycles.com for a great price on them.
Enjoy your new bike and ride safe.
