I have been an HD Fan for a long time. I see that Eric has stated that he had a bad time with a dealership. I would just like to give props to the dealership in Los Banos, CA. I ride an EVO with custom parts. Broke down recently passing through there. I was able to get it too them. Although their lifts were full they saw that I was hard up and had 200 miles left to make it home. My bike moved to the top of the list. They fixed it. Made it home no problem.

If I buy new I am going back there. Customer oriented.

Props to them, Thanks "Peanut".

It was only after he was dead in the ground that the workers pulled the machinery out of hiding and started building cars in what was left of the blown up factories in hopes of making a few bucks to feed their families

There was VW way before Adolph.

Again, with much respect, your comment is erroneous.

With regard to the upside down thing, VW turned its backs on its loyal cult of drivers (the air coolers) when they locked down on copyright issues and started discontinuing parts. The dealerships suddenly had no use for the people who had kept their company alive for many years.

See any parallels to this situation and HD after the AMF buy back?
There was Porsche WAY before Hitler but not VW. Everywhere I search seems to indicate that Hitler promoted the idea of an affordable "peoples car" that could carry 5. In 1933, the **** government approached Ferdinand Porsche to design and implement it. Porsche had previously built small "beetle" style prototypes but they were never produced due to the depression.

"KDF" you refer to was Hitler's first name for the car in 1933: Kraft durch Freude (KdF) Wagen which translates to "Strength Through Joy Car" in 1935 he had the name changed to Volkswagen. Hitler announced a working prototype of the Beetle in May of 1938 and he also layed the cornerstone of the factory at Wolsburg. The property for the factory was commandeered by the ****'s from a private estate. The factory was funded by a scheme by the ****'s who sold government stamps through monthly installment payments by the German people who could supposedly redeem the stamps in the future for a car. It never came to be. After **** Germany invaded Poland in late 1939 production of civilian VWs was diverted to making military vehicles like the Kubelwagen.

Regardless, VW never really became the wildly popular "peoples car" until after the war and after Hitler (not long before him).

Check out David Burnett's paper "From Hitler to Hippies: The VW Bus in America" which seems to be a well documented writing.

True. I could have stated that better.

Hitler had almost nothing to do with Volkswagen (the company) as it was after his time. That was my main point and it seems yours too. My only small correction to your info would be that Hitlers car was named the KDF wagon but KDF (strength through joy) was the name of his social program that managed every facet of the Germans life not just the car.

Small Wonder is a great book to begin looking into the VW and how incredible it was that they came to be.

and I apologize to all for letting the discussion go this general in the tech section. my bad.

Great to hear. Glad to hear that is not a practice of ALL HD Dealerships. I was hoping my experience was the exception, not the rule.

Abudoggie and Aggro_jo,

I'll check out the reference you cited. I didn't intend to spread incorrect information but what I stated was what I had learned in the past (although I stated it somewhat simplistically). I'm interested to learn more. Could they have taught incorrect information in college?
