Default Flush mount gas cap problem

I had the dealer install a black flush-mount gas gauge and cap set. I am having a problem getting the trim ring that goes around the gas cap to stay down. It is installed on a Rocker and the edges keep coming up. Has anyone else had this problem? Does anyone know of a good adhesive/tape solution that will work without damaging the paint?

3M makes Adhesive tape For all types of trim. the best place to buy it would be from an auto paint and trim shop OR you could try your local auto-body shop the may give you some for cheap! Make sure you clean off all the old glue befor you start with the new!

Thanks, I'll let you know how it does. I know that it comes with a 3M ring that is ultra thin (both in thickness and width). After the original didn't hold, the dealer tried a wider strip of 3M and it didn't hold either. I am thinking about cleaning the area with alcohol (works with stickers in other areas), and then heating the trim ring with a hot blow-dryer so that it forms to the curve of the tank instead of fighting against it. It's kind of a bad design but it looks good.

SSSMDG, I have the Kuryakyn flush mount cap #8309 on my sportster and I have the same problem as the OP. The inner part of the cap threads into the outer part tighter that the outside section threads into the tank, so it is essentially a one piece cap. Not a huge issue to me, as it still does its job (comes off when I need to put gas in) and looks alot nicer than the stock one.
