Default rocker arm noise

I'm getting a ticking sound from the rocker arm front cylinder, it comes in at around 1800-2000 rpm and up. I've been told that it sounds like a worn valve guide that is getting a little sloppy and that this quite common with the V-twins. The bike is a electral glide standard and has 49,000 klms/30625 miles on it. Is this right as to what I'm told? Do I need to pull the head and replace the valve guide it sound like its on the exhaust side. thanks for looking.

If you are going to pull the head and replace a valve guide, I would recommend pulling both heads and having them rebuilt along with porting. You will find a big difference in the way the engine performs.

Possibly the guide, but most likely it's the valve seat causing the noise. They get hammered and eventually wear to the point there is no longer a 3 angle pattern causing the entire valve surface to contact the width of the seat. I don't know why the front one does it first, but "I've been there - done that" And it won't hurt anything, just annoying. I ran mine 75,000 with that noise. But if it were mine, I'd do both heads while you're into it.

I can't encourage anyone to spend the time and money on porting, especially a tour bike where fuel mileage is a consideration. But that's just my opinion.

Have you tried changing your oil or giving a good listen to your lifters with a stethoscope? Other things that could give noises is a bent push rod but that wont usually go away with engine rpm. 30k miles doesn't sound like enough miles to need a valve job, unless your constantly hammering on it.,,

Default rocker arm noise

I have the same problem.....It doesn't make the noise when the motor is cold, only when at operating tempture. The motor only has 5700 miles on it. Is this in fact a common plroblem??

Well, apparently it is somewhat common to have valve train noise, but it shouldn't be.

Do you have adjustable lifter pushtubes? Stock cam? Have you checked/cleaned the oil screen on the engine case? What kind of oil do you use? (low oil pressure most often causes the lifters to knock before you have upper vavle train noise) And without naming names, who did you valve job? (HD shop or auto machine shop)

Default roker arm noise

the motor has a 1550 kit, screaming eagle htc cnc ported heads with copression releases ,pistons10.5 to 1 , se 260 cams,se adjustible push rods. se roller rockers and supports. I'm leaning to replacing the lifters being it only makes the noise at operating temp.once the oil is good and hot. oil pressuse is ahout 40 lbs when cold drops to about 12 lbs at idel when hot. about 30 lbs at 2500 rpms when hot.
