Has anyone else had problems with the rubber wheel nuts used to hold the windshield in place failing?
I have had no less than 5 well nuts pop loose and let the base of the windshield pull away from the fairing.
The exposed screw subsequently scratches my fairing. My dealer has it now, and is trying to "fix it" again
for the fourth time. Just curious if anyone else is experiencing this or am I just lucky?
Yes I had problems with the windshield rubber gasket. It would not stay in place kept coming out from under the windshield. The windshield also rattles against the inner fairing and scratching the black coating off. I have heard that the 06's inner fairing is molded a little wrong and that is why the windshield hits the fairing. I have had it back two times for this and I think the rubber is staying in place but the shield is still rattling against the fairing. I will probaly install the clearview windshield as it is supposed to far better then stock. Goodluck in getting it fixed.
Did they replace the windshield under warrenty? Mine is wearing through the black and look like crap. I've got 3K miles on it and had it in for the rubber loose but never mentioned the scratching. They rubber was loose before i got home.
Yes they replaced under warranty. I think they ended up using super glue to hold rubber to windshield. I heard the Clearview is much thicker and rubber stays in place and shield doesnt flex as much.
I appreciate the input. Since my message...I ended up in a conversation with an engineer in the corporate office in Milwaukee about my problems. I was getting no satisfaction from my local dealer. The factory was awesome! The engineer aske me a lot of questions, he was an expert on the RG platform. He had me take some measurements on my fairing and on the windshield and send them to him. Next thing I know he has sent the area service manager to my dealership to install a new fairing, a new windshield, and new gasket for the windshield all of which he hand picked at the factory and sent to my dealer. Needless to say I was blown away! Turns out the outside holes in my original fairing had been cut out incorrectly causing ALL my problems. I have had absolutely no issues since they replaced the fairing. I just came back from an 1800 mile run and she handled like a champ. Just thought I should update the story to be fair to Harley.
