I picked up the 3-pocket fairing pouch accessory from HD, put it on but forgot to put the tape that the directions say is supposed to go between the bolt openings at the bottom of the inside part of the windshield.
I do have the little rubber mounts on the bottom, but was wondering if this tape is really neccesary..if so looks like I'll have to undo everything. I'm just trying to figure out what good that thin strip of tape does at the bottom of the inside part of the windshield..unless it helps keep the windshield from getting scratched or something if you decide to take the pouches out.
Don't think it makes much difference. I put the tape on mine, but the last time I took the windshield off, some of the tape was scootched up. Even if it does scratch the windsheild, it's below the fairing anyways. If I was to do it over, I wouldn't use the tape. The only beef I have with mine is the pouches rubbing the inside of the windshield. This creates a chaulky looking marking on the pouches/windshield where they rub. I also wish the pouches were a little bigger.
Personally been there done that as far as having the 3 compartment fairing pouch. Put something more than just the tape to protect the windshield. On my new bike I am opting to forego any type of windshield pouch, there's just almost no way to keep it from scratching the shield. Good part is if you don't ever thake the pouch off you'll not hardly pay any attention to it.
