Looks like I was'nt up to speed on this project, I thought he already had a frame and just wanted to modify brackets etc. I agree that if he is building the frame from the ground up tig would be much better. Building a frame from scratch is pretty complicated, like Tattooguy said it's tricky. Most custom builders, but not all of them, have someone else build their frames.

Thats ture.. 85% of the big timers out there are having Diamond CHassis, Santee, Paugho make there frames.. Some of you real big cats, like Jesse, Billy and some others are actually building them.. most take something and modify it. Its a heck of allot eaiser to cut out some down tubes or rake a neck more. But the guys that do make there own frames from straight tube.. I applaude you! but also most use professionally made fame jigs. Not the jigs where you go to E-bay and but the plans. Those frame set ups are fine and dandy for the guy who wants something to do... They are decent.. you can take there idea's and branch off and make it allot better..

Best thing for the 1st timer new to the life... buy a frame.. 750.00- 1000.00 bones for a rigid is a small price to pay..

This is exactly what you want...

Paugho, 2up 4 out and a 35* rake handles a 180/200mm rear...

Model # 140-24AW Sells for right around a grand...

Now for in the 750 to 850 range you can get one that handles up to a 140mm rear.

One thing you might want to be thinking about is you final drive and your rear brake set up. You mentioned the old skool look. Well old skool is running a chain drive and a drum/mechanical brake. Or you can go new skool and run a belt and a disc brake set up. I chops with both set ups.. both have pros and cons. Also one thing you will hear is when you get into the wider tires you need to offset motors, and trannys. Well Thats really when you get to a 230mm and up.. So stay 200 or less and you will be ok. Also be thinking about 4 or 5 speed or 6 speed.... all those things I mentioned are key when building and or buying a frame!!!!
