A fellow Patriot Guard Rider carries tire life WAY too far. Anyway, now that the cords are showing on his rear tire, he decided he shouldn't ride anymore, until he gets a new tire.
Here is the question; It's a 2002 883C Original tire size is 130/90 16. How much larger tire, if any, can he put on the rear, without any other mods??
God knows, the way this boy rides, the more rubber we can get on his bike the better!
He's a great guy..just young, dumb...and ya know the rest of the story. I'd like him to live long enough to be miserable like the rest of us old farts. hehe
In this case, size does not matter! Even a larger tire will not last longer, it only wider, not thicker. I imagine he is running on factory HD Dunlops. If money is the issue for him, he should just stick with the Dunlops, But a better tire would be a Metzler. I know everyone has their choice, but after riding Dunlops and going to Metzlers, i will never change.
If money is an issue, have you buddy check out the Shinko 712. A tire to fit the back of his bike is 55 bucks. They are good wearing tires, and do great in the rain. I have been running them for 10 year on my Sportster. I can put a set on for 100 bucks.
I agree that Metzlers are better tires than Dunlop. I ran only Metzlers on my BMW and they were fantastic. However, I have never been in a situation with my Harley where Dunlops have come up short. You can drag all the parts you want on your bike and the Dunlops will handle it. Why would you want to pay more for a tire that wears out faster???
