Was wondering if anyone on this forum has had any similar paint problems. I noticed a small white scuff on my back fender about 2 months after purchase of my 07 Softail Custom. At the time I thought it was a from swinging my leg over and hit it with my boot. Now with every wash I noticed the scuff area was growing.
It now covers a huge area of my fender, almost like the paint is flaking off. About a month before I put it away for the winter last year it is happening on my gas tank now. Being that my last 2 summers were very busy and the dealership is 3 1/2 hrs away, I finally got there right before the snow fell.
Naturally they blamed me, said I was strapping things on the fender and my chaps are rubbing the gas tank. I dont own chaps and have never strapped anything on the back. Bike has 9800 kms on it now. I am not too concerned about them fixing it as I planned from day 1 to get a custom paint job anyways. I'm a little disappointed with there attitude though, glad I didnt get extended warranty.
friend of mine had the same tyhing happen. He took it to a reputable body shop and they clear coated the entire bike over. Hasn't had the problem since. But Harley sure didn't pay for it.
