I have an oil free direct drive from Sears and find it to be a lot louder than the belt drive oiled models. It seems that the oiled models cost a little more, but if I had it to do over again that's how I would go. I just don't like the noise of the oil free.

I've got a Dewalt,...oil lubricated,...like about a 4 gallon tank,...it's made to run nail guns and stuff. Verry tuff! But very noisy too.I've abused the hell out of it,...and it still works great. Think I paid $400 for it at Lowes.
