So close...
I don't know about your wife, but when my husband bought his 1200 sporty in 1997 I took two one hour rides on the back of it and told him he needed to get a bigger bike. His response was to get a bike of my own. I took an MSF safety course and bought an 883. The rest is history. I rode the 883 for 10,000 miles, then took his 1200 and rode it for 60,000 miles, and finally bought a 2002 fatboy that has 25,000 miles on it.
Go for your new bike and enroll her in a safety course.

Wide Glide baby! I'm about a 90-10 split on the Wide Glide over the Heritage now. One more trip and I think my decision is complete. Still waiting on the $ to come in before I can buy it though; probably 2 more stinkin months.

Well, I'll tell you a long story, but try to keep it short. We rode our Harley for 3 years. Then, while riding the mountains of the Blue Ridge in NC (our yearly thing) we witnessed a horrible motorcycle accident in front of us on the interstate going 75 mph. (we were in our truck at the time). Being an RN, I just had to stop. We called 911 and stayed with him til they got there. The guy lived and still emails me today. He got his body and his Harley fixed after months and hopped right back on and didn't look back. However, it had a profound effect on me. Even being a nurse, I could see the guy flipping over and over and over again on the asphalt and I thought as I knelt beside him, that it could be me and my husband lying there, leaving our children parentless.
I let that fear infest me, and therefore let it infest my husband. We soon sold our Harley. It took no time to realize what a horrible mistake we made. Two months later, we were in the Harley dealership "just to look." After we left, the sight of that 2005 Turquoise and Sand Harley-Davidson Heritage Softail Classic that was sitting in the showroom never left our minds and hearts. Less than two weeks later, it was ours. As soon as I stepped INTO that Harley dealership, it was confirmed in our hearts that we miss riding and life was just not the same without it. So....see what going into that dealership DOES??
We will ride til we can't ride any longer. When your pocketbook feels right, you will do the same thing.

Rhonds,
That was a hell of a story.
It kind of makes you think.
I look at it like this, you have to enjoy every minute you have. You never know when it is your time. If bikes make life more enjoyable than you have to ride. Walking across the street could be deadly. I could think of alot worse ways to go than on a bike. But lets not think of that . Lets all ride safe and live long. I hate to hear of people going down.

Like I said, it's only a matter of time. We're both taking the safety course this weekend and we're more waiting to see if she likes the 1200 or if she's going to want the 883 instead. Once that's decided then we'll see about the Wide Glide.
