Default change pull back drags to apehanger help

I have an 05 fatboy with pull back drag bars on it and i am thinking of changing out to some apes to help with posture and back problems.

back in the day i used to have 16" apes with 6" risers and that was a bit extreme. im thinking 14" apes with 2-4" risers might work well. Just enough height to keep me more upright.

Im thinking of ordering extended handlebar wiring harness and running wires through bars myself. This would make for a quick install to swap out bars and just plug into sockets on side of frame behind the gas tank.

Then swap out clutch, brake lines and throttle cables. and insert handlebar controls and I think that would be it. Would have to change out handle bar bushings to solids so there is not too much floppy play in handle bars with extended height.

Is there anything I am forgetting or any suggestions anyone can offer who has gone through this before? Last time i worked on such a project was almost ten years back and Im a little rusty on wrenching.

Would aftermarket parts be just as reliable as factory?
Thanks in advance.

Apes are all about positioning.Where are you going to sit in relation to the bars i.e. laid back, upright etc..your seat will probably determine to a great extent your bar height unless you like real high and numb.A lot of guys past forty or so tend to go shoulder height.Wide Glide bars have a nice relaxed position as opposed to the mini apes that come on the Street Bob.I mention this as all apes are different regarding pullback and grip angle. If your wrist is bent too much at a high angle, you may experience numbness.I've ridden all sorts of apes for almost 37 years and I've gotten picky.I kind of like mini apes on 4" glide risers or 14" bars on stock risers. No problems riding through states that have height laws. But I prefer a laid back, feet forward, back against a bag, arms up ride.Paughco and flanders make a lot of very reasonable priced bars as opposed to a lot of the newer companies that rip you for two hundred or more for the same bars.Remember too that your seat as it exists may not work well with the different posture your high bars require. One thing we did in the old days was to pour heavy sand or number 8 lead shot throughout the bars to stop vibration.I also use polyurethane riser bushings to stop vibration and movement.Remember that the higher the bar, the more vibration/movement from the harmonics.Just some thoughts...
