77 Sportster won't start....help!
I have 77 Sportster that a week ago ran like a champ. The only problem I have had of any real significance was a dead battery after we rode it home two weeks ago. Kind of assumed I left the key on as after a charge and subsequent rides it seemed fine. Now it won't start. Battery is charged and holding, appears to be getting spark and gas, cranks, even caught once two days ago for a second then died. Now it just cranks and won't run. The only thing I can add is that we had a really hard rain over the weekend. The bike was under a covered porch and didn't get wet but the humidity was rediculous. Thought it took on moisture but it has been three dry sunny days. Just don't know where to start. Help?

Have your battery load tested. Autozone will do this for free. Even when tested with ohm meter, battery might look fully charged but have a dead cell. This will result in lower cranking amps, not enough to start the bike. If you think it's a moisture issue, they do sell a spray at electronics stores (radio shack) that disperse moisture.
