odd harmonic?
It's on my 05 Dyna. Only in first gear and between 14-16mph, there is enough vibration to shake the mirrors badly. Any other speed, no vibration other than what I figure I should expect (it's really smooth all the rest of the time).
Pull the clutch, vibration gone. Switch to 2nd gear, vibration is still gone in the exact same speed range (14-16mph).
Before I tried testing in 2nd gear at that speed, I thought I got less octane than 91 so I ran half the tank and filled with Sunoco 93. It's been a few tanks now and I can reliably reproduce the exact symptom.
So here the deal... clearly the engine is under light load under this condition but it happens only in first gear... seems odd. Under a more 'normal' acceleration, as in from a stop light, you don't even notice the vibration.
I've had a few people suggest a flat spot in the electronic throttle and others say the engine is bogging. Both explanations don't seem to make sense; and from a mecahnical point of view, I can't think of anything to really explain what could be happening. It just seems odd.
Help... my Dyna is so smooth under all other conditions... should I just 'live' with this or could it be a sign of something going bad?
I'm opening myself up here to comments but: 'what do you think?'
I'm new to HD and this 05 Dyna (11k miles and just serviced when purchased) is my first bike... and I love it!
Thanks for your thoughts / help.
This was just such an odd problem and the fix was so d@ng easy so I thought I'd share it just in case someone else has a similar symptom.
