dipstick blows out on 1998 fxd, to much pressure in oil tank . don't know why

The motor and oil tank vent through the bolts that hold the air cleaner to the heads. Check to see if there clear, If they are clear then you may have a bad breather valve or too much cylinder ring leakage. Good Luck.

could it be the umbrella gaskets in the heads ?

Gary, they would have to be stuck shut, usually they curl up and dont seal. I'd run it by your local shop and have them check you cylinder leakage with a gage set (should be less than 40%) It's quick and should'nt cost much. Good Luck
