Default Windshield crack

Was doing some maintenance over the weekend and must have overtightened one of the screws on the stock chrome windshield trim. Noticed about a 1/2" crack coming from one of them last night. Was thinking of drilling a small hole at the end of the crack to stop it. Has anyone done anything like this before or is there a better idea?

I did the same thing last year and it formed a circular micro cracks around the bolt but is not spreading yet. On the bright side you can buy replacement shield for around $130. You might take it to a glass place to see if they have an easy fix.
