I am in the process of rebuilding my 95 dresser, I have taken it down to the frame. I have started to take the transmission apart for powder coating ( I will be doing that in house ) and noticed that I need some special tools for the main drive inner bearing race and some other special tools. The book show JIMS as selling the tools but the seem very expensive, has anybody done this without the tools or has anybody made up some tools or other advice....
also I was planning on sand blasting the motor for powder coating is this ok? any advice....
Thanks
Rich
Watch the sand,it will go everywhere.Make sure everything is spotless before assembly, powder coating will work but again watch threaded areas.Clean em out good, run a tap thru em before assembly.Someone in your area should have the spec tooling needed that you could borrow.A case of beer or lunch may be all it would take.Ask around.

JIMS has great tools but they are pricey. See if you can rent what you need. Or perhaps you'll have to take the tranny to an indy that can do the last bit of work for ya.
As far as 'blasting goes, most powder coaters do it before applying the color. Keep everything clean and you won't have any problems. I'd get a set of 'thread chasers' as opposed to using a tap to clean out the threads though.
The threaded holes, bearing surfaces and gasket surfaces should be masked/plugged before sandblast/paint.
After the PC,check all these surfaces for any paint the masking did not stop from bleeding.
Also thoroughly wash then use compressed air to clean the parts, sand could be in the little cracks, holes etc-.
