you can also use an epoxy primer that is flat black and it will not need to be painted again, epoxy primer is a primer/sealer that seals like a regular paint unlike regular primer
Well guys, I have tried the suggestions you have made and nothing is working. I have sanded multiple ways, tried different paints, environments and I can't figure it out. I am giving in and goign to the pro's. I have been without my bike for 2 weeks now and I need it back so the painter said he can have it done by Monday. If the shop tells me what I was doing wrong I will pass it on.
fxstcguy98, I was originally going to powdercoat everything, but I live in England and it's not cheap here.
The shop told me to give the paint another week to dry and see how it turns out. Seems that I was just being impatient. I checked the paint again today and now it seems to be sticking just fine to both aluminum and steel. I'm going with my original plan and just going to finish painting the rest myself. I will post pics as soon as it's done. Thanks again for the help.
I am a novice at repairing paint chips. Can someone please explain the wet/dry sanding? Do you actually wet the sandpaper? Is there a kit sold at a auto parts store with everything I need (less the paint) to fix a ding on my gas tank?
tail11 - I have wet sanded in the past and I used a garden hoseto constantly kept water on the part that I was sanding. As for the fix dings, I used this stuff called Isopon P38 filler. It is just like bondo. I just filled in a dent yesterday that was about 3 inches in diameter. Once I sanded it down you couldn't tell that it wasever a dent there. If you go to an auto parts store you will find auto filler. Hope that helps
Thanks for the info. Does auto parts stores carry a paint kit to fix small chips? I'm trying to figure out what materials I need to fix a dime size paint chip in my tank. I bought the Harley touch-up kit (paint and clear). Which sandpapers do I need?
Is there a website with any helpful info/pictures that anyone knows of?
