Default Old motor painted on the inside???

I recently started tearing down a 66 shovel motor I have had for a while and have discovered that it is painted on the inside. It's a kinda reddish orange. It was done on both cases. Anyone know why this might have been done? The only thing I can figure is maybe it was totaled at one time and went to auction or maybe a shop had it and knew it was a bad motor and that is how they marked it.
Any suggestions will be considered.
This one has got me baffled.

Its just a sealer, Glypkall? or something like that. You'll find it in all kinds of castings, gearboxes, tractor and truck transmissions etc. Also called insulating varnish.

Glyptol a paint used in electrical motors it seals the pores in the steel and makes oil run off faster, a old drag race trick

I don't know about Harleys but it was common way back when to paint the inside of castings, to make them oil tight. Royal Enfield bikes certainly used to do it. The reason is that gravity castings were slightly porous, but modern engine castings use superior alloys and casting techniques. It may be that particular engine was porous and when rebuilt was treated. Someone cared about it! RE bikes used a beautiful bright yellow chromate paint, although it went all colours with age and use!
