Default The first had to be a Harley..

Hey Guys,

new to the forum so I thought I'd say hi. Recently purchased a 2005 Road King Classic from a lovely old gentlemen. Its my first bike and needless to say its a learning curve.

Anything I should know about the bike? Tools to carry? Fuel to use?

Any input is welcome! I'm not new to forums so flame suit is always on!

--------------------------------------------------------------
I washed the bike for the first time yesterday evening and the speedo, turn signals, rear lights, plate light, and horn stopped work. Bike fires no problem and the headlight works. When I arm and disarm the alarm the lights flash... any ideas?

Also is there a proper way to wash a Harley? I've detailed cars for the better part of my working life and have never run into an issue using a power washer.

Please help. Willing to ship your choice of 6 beers anywhere in North America

Hi Haz and welcome to HDF from the UK. If you haven't found it yet the Touring forum is the place to call in, to catch up on things about your bike. Hopefully you won't need your flame suit!

Pressure washers not good in my opinion for any motorcycle. JMO though. Normal for street bikes to not start or show signs of electrical problems from washing if you get near or in the electrical circuits including plug wires and switch housings. Dirt bikes hold up better but are still vunerable. Again Just My Opinion!

Welcome to the forum from Southern Ontario, First off nice first bike I have an 08 Road King Police and love it. As for tools, not too much you need to carry these bikes really aren't a roadside repair machine, but take a look at some of the hex head and torx head sizes you have around the wheels and brake calipers, also an adjustable wrench and Philips screwdriver. I once had the front axle clamp nuts back off and had to retighten them at a stop. Fuel to use, I run premium high octane for two fills and then a mid grade on the third to save a little. As for the light problem after washing, never a good idea to use a power washer, unlike a car the fuse box is not as protected from pressure wash. Locate your fuses under the left side frame cover, you probably popped one. Do yourself a favour and take everything off your bike you can, bags, side covers, windshield, seat, etc, take a good look at where and what everything is. It is a good learning exercise to know your bike and if you do run into trouble you wont be fumbling around trying to locate something. Good luck out there, keep then rubber side down and enjoy the sun and wind on your face. Hope this helped some.
