Default Red Engine Light Flashes throughout ride

I have a 1996 HD Electra Glide Ultra Classic and the Red Engine Light keeps going on, staying on for 20 - 30 seconds, then goes off. It will flash on and off like that during the entire ride. If the light is on and I pull the clutch on, the light goes off. I have checked the oil - oil is good and fresh. Anyone have any ideas? Could I be damaging the engine? What could be some of reasons for the light to flash like this?

Mine did that coming back from Sturgis last year. Thought it was the oil pressure. Turned out to be the stator.

Do the electrical test for the stator and voltage regulator.

I had the same problem with my 07 Street Bob. It turned out to be the stator at 20,000 miles. Changed it out with one from Cycle Electric and haven't looked back since! It's an easy fix. This forum and YouTube saved me a $700 trip to H-D.

And you might want to change out your battery AFTER. Having a stator malfunction puts a lot of strain/ drain on your battery. Good luck!
