Default Windshield turbulence solution?

Greetings folks. I'm a new member here seeking some help. I used the search function and wasn't able to find an answer to my question so I thought I'd start this thread. If its in the wrong forum forgive me.

Anywho, I've got a '14 Low Rider with an HD tall quick release adjustable windshield. The problem that I am having is that at speeds greater than 60ish, I get so much turbulence that it rattles my head like crazy and it vibrates my vision to a degree that I can't safely see. I wear a Shoei modular style helmet.

I've tried moving the windshield up and down, moving myself up and down, and moving myself forward and back. The only thing stops this problem is leaning forward into the windshield, which would be fine but its too far forward to be comfortable.

I did some searching on the web and discovered that adding lowers to the forks might solve this problem.

Has anyone else experienced this problem? And if so, what route did you take to solve it?

Thanks in advance.

I did Klock Werks billboard flare windshield and the fork lowers. It made a HUGE difference for me, I'm on a RK. Before the change I was wearing goggles because my sunglasses bounced around so much I could barely see.

Does your helmet have a peak?

The term you need to use for a search is "buffeting" 90% of this is caused from below triple tree and comes up from below. The windshield can be part of it, but you have to address the buffeting from below. Ride your bike at 60+ mph and take your left arm across your chest as level as you can. You likely feel the helmet lift go away. Buffeting can be managed with some trial and error. Fork lowers/fangs installed correctly will help.

Thanks for the input folks. I'll have to read through the buffeting threads. I did order up some lowers, and I'll try them out. I was assured that I could return them if they didn't help, so....

I'll go out later and try your experiment checkers. I hadn't really thought of the wind coming from below previous to starting my search for a solution, but it does make sense.

Thanks again all.

I have the same exact problem with buffeting on my head. Same windshield and leaning into the windshield is also the only thing i have found to work too. I am running a 2012 fatbob. Will be watching this thread to see what will work. Over 60 I have double vision most of the time. Not fun.

With your glasses shaking, it is likely your buffeting is coming from below. When you are out riding at speed, do the arm cross test and I'll bet your glasses quit shaking.

They make an adhesive lip that can be cut to fit across the top of the windshield. I cannot remember the name of the stuff. It is inexpensive, looks good and is pretty effective. Maybe someone else will chime in with the name of the stuff. Also, I have changed helmets and gone from buffeting to no buffeting. Until you try it you would not believe how much a helmet has to do with it.
