Default Ohio Motorcycle Exam?

hey guys,

been riding since April on my '07 Street Bob

I want to get my cycle endorsement, but I was wondering what is required, how hard it is, and if anybody knows how I can set up a course in my driveway?

My grandfather has a 80cc Honda Scooter...so I can't stall it, don't have to worry about shifting it. I think I will use it to pass the test. (please if you have negative comments about me not using my own bike, keep them to yourself)

whats your advice? Thanks guys!!

I took the test in Ohio back in 1993.Your ride needs to have all working lights and Horn. Also the course is to big for a driveway. You can go and look at it at an exam station. But they won't let you prctice on it.So come back at night or on a Sunday when no one's there. Also I don't know if they will accept a Honda 80 as a motorcycle. They want to see you shift. Also the written test is almost the same as a car. They ask 50 questions and when you get to 38 correct the test is over. The test is 90% the same as a car.

I'll have to check my local testing station...they MIGHT have it locked when nobody is there....hopefully not.

I'm pretty sure I can use the Scooter. The book says any DOT approved vehicle. I mean if I didn't have a Harley, and had that scooter and wanted my license...its what I would take...even if its a "twist 'n' go"

Go the easy route, take the motorcycle riderssafety course. I took mine at Apollo career center in Lima. It's a three day class. One day in the class room aand two days riding on the course. You learn a hell of a lot about riding too. It only costs $30. At the end of the class you get a certificate that you take to the BMV and they give you your endorsement. 100% gauranteed pass. The Motorcycle Ohio website has a list of all the places that offer the course.

Like evilscotsman said, Takethe course. You're only foolin' yourself if you pass the test on a Honda 80. Learn to ride your bike the right way and pass the test on it. You'll fell better knowing you have the confidence and skills to help keep the dirty side down. I've see a lot of riders who do themselves a dis-service by taking short cuts. Riding is serious business. We all want to have fun, but the margin of error is very slim and the consequences of poor riding skills is not pleasant. JMHO.

Not slamming you but the 100% gaurantee pass thing makes me a bit nervous, There are some who are just not ready or never will be ready to ride. ANd to assembly line themthru is not really a good idea, IMO

But the Harley D dealer in Deleware OH SR71 and SR36 not to far from sanduskyhas 5 day course that will get you certified right there as well and they use 500cc bikes a bit pricey 300.00 Plus look at the ride time you will get in

I just took my test on my Electraglide it's really not that hard... but your best bet is to go on a sunday morning and practice, i did and nobody said nothing... they have it all marked out in paint... for the cone weave take 5 pop can's and smash them flat put them on the mark's, this way you can tell if you would hit a cone, as far as the scooter i do believe it has to be legal for the freeway but not sure... they didn't make us shift gears.... Well good Luck...

I took the road test and I never practiced it before. Eventhough all my buddies told me that i could practice it before. I took it on a 600 shadow and had no problems. When i arrived at the testing site, their was a younger guy that was renting his scooter out to people for $25 to take their test on, so i know its legal, that was in Bowling Green, ohio. GOOD LUCK!

The only issue is if the scooter is regsterd as a moped or motorcycle. I aggree with what others have said, take a riders course, they are not 100% garentee you pass, but most everyone will pass. If you can't pass the riding test then you shouldn't be riding, just don't want to see anyone get hurt.

Good thread. Question...I'm moving to Ohio from Michigan. Have had my endorsement for 30 yrs or so. What am I facing having to change licenses from Mich to Ohio?
