Voodoochild, the fairgrounds is about 3 miles from the dealership...go N on Milan Rd about 1 1/2 mile...turn left on E Strub about 1/2 mile...right on Columbus Ave about a 1/2 mile...the fairgrounds will be on your left by the cemetary. We stay at a family lake house in Huron so I cant tell you about the camping scene. Have to agree with the others about the islands they're always a good time. Most of the good stuff goes on at the fairgrounds or in downtown Sandusky. Be sure to take advantage of the shuttle service (its only a dollar) if you party as the cops are out pretty thick. The wife and I will be up for atleast Sat/Sun. PM me when it gets a little closer if you need a little "local" help/knowledge. Have a great time.
Thanks aces and eights, thats what i like about this forum, always someone in the know and willing to help out a fellow rider with info.
Didnt know about the shuttle, but thats the ticket for doing the bar scene in downtown without risking my licence. I drive for a living so its kinda important.
I'll likely take you up on that pm offer of more info closer to the event. Thanks.
lblax, it does sound pretty tight at the campground especially for an abate run deal, no campfires and such, but its likely cause its the fairgrounds renting it out. I'm open to other suggestions but most of the other campgrounds seem like they're a ways out of town.
FYI the LEO's (Sandusky, Perkins, Erie county Sherrif) are all told to leave bikers alone during bike week. It generates WAY to much money for the county. So unless you are being a real ***, you should be fine. But be warned, if you leave Erie county, you're on your own, the neigboring countires don't get any money from OBW so they try to get thiers by way of tickets. My advice is to find a hotel on RTE. 250 or stay at the campgrounds. It truely is a blast, we had about 150,000 bikes over the week last year, should be a hit bigger this year. You can get the all access pass for 100 bucks, or you can just go hang out for free and purchase tickets ala carte for the events you want. Downtown is free and a real fun time, lots of vendors, live music, beer in the streets, a real goot time.
Just booked a weeks campsite at the abate campground. (erie county fairgrounds i believe?)
When booking it over the phone they said one of the large insurance companies was offering a free ticket for the country act booked on sunday night of the first weekend if they could give you a no obligation insurance quote.
Sounded like a good deal, but i wont be there till the monday so i passed on it.
Just thought i'd share that info for anyone who might be interested.
