Which trike kit can I purchase and install myself?
Recently lost the vision in my left eye and am legally blind in that eye. My two-wheeled days may be over and researching trikes. I would like to convert my 09 Ultra Classic and prefer to install the kit myself.
Do you have suggestions on kit manufactures that allow the user to install?
A lot depends on what you want in a Trike. There are some out there with independent rear suspention, and some with a solid axle.
You can get kits with a full touring style, or some without a tour pac. Some don't have any rear body, just the rear of the motorcycle with fenders.
DFT has some of all designs that you can do yourself. Also I think Lehman has a do it yourself option.
Many trike kits have to be installed by a dealer that is set up and trained by their company to follow their requirements. The best you can do is look online and find the style you like then maybe find feedback on that brand..
You might find a lot of recommendations in this forum : https://www.hdforums.com/forum/hacke...railering-100/
Another option would be a removable Voyager bolt-on kit if you on a budget.
You might even be able to locate a used one and they're a lot cheaper than a true conversion kit.
Either way, you'll need a triple tree designed for use on trikes as well as a steering damper.
I've been legally blind in one eye for years and ride a regular motorcycle. I try to avoid night driving if I can and just drive a little slower. I think you'll find you will adjust quickly.
I had a 2000 Harley Classic with a Champion trike kit that I rode for ten years until I traded it for a 13 TriGlide Anniversary. It was also solid axle and if I didn't know which one I was riding, I don't think I could tell the difference. Champion also makes a IS kit now too. They now own Lehman. I also had their manual reverse on the 2000, it was great. If reverse goes out on my 13 and it will cost $2,000 plus to replace, I will get another manual.
I went for my first ride this morning, less than 5-miles, and was very dizzy when I returned. It was a very uncomfortable ride and my brain and balance were off. Maybe I just need to give the eye some more time. Thanks for the response.

If you have trouble in one eye you loose depth perseption . I have a scar on the focal point in my left eye. That along with a cataract on the same eye I had real problems with seeing much.
After you teach your brain a different was to see, things will get better.
