In case anyone is interested... I wanted to build a single place trailer instead of using my utility trailer which is '8'x8'. It's been across the states with me twice, but I don't need something as big with my truck. Here is what I came up with. I modified a boat trailer. You can see what I started with and where I ended up. It tows better than anything I've towed with. I made a trip VA to NH and back. She didn't miss a beat.
Nicely done Marine! Couple comments. You need a drop hitch on your truck, trailer needs to be more level. I'd cut about 3-4' off the tounge, will bring your load closer to center. Both suggestions will increase your already good towing report.

Thank ya sir. I was going to cut the tongue, but it lets you see everything alot better and it tows real well so I left it. It makes backing up much easier too. I dropped the hitch before I actually used it also. I left it slightly nose up though.
Only issue I really ran into when I was building it was the axle. Rot holes at the spring mounts that you couldn't see until I disassembled it. I picked up a new axle, hubs and springs so she'll be good to go for years to come.
Less than a G note all in including buying the trailer a few years ago.
Nicely done...one more suggestion. A stone shield of some sort in front of the bike. Im sure you know how much crap gets kicked up behind a vehicle and if towing something that takes all the hits. A nice piece of aluminum diamond plate would look pretty good

You're right. That would be awesome. I haven't been able to find a decent piece for somewhere in this atmosphere pricewise though... I definitely will add something when I come across it. A salt shield from a sled trailer would be great too.
Nice job, amazing how many trailers might be out their on the road with axles like that..... I'd shorten the tongue to keep those stones from flying back. But still, nice job.

Definitely something to look for. Especially on any repurposed boat trailers that might have seen salt water at some point
