Default Side cars and wheelchairs?

Hi Hack, and you other guys too. I jumped over to ask if anyone has seen a sidecar rigged up to be able to carry a wheelchair. Not with the person in the wheelchair, but some kind of rack or something to carry the wheelchair while folded. I am trying to figure out a way to get a good friend back on the road with me. Hack, you should know him, Rick from Chattahoochee that had the bad wreck back in October.

dgator, yep I know Rick, even rode in his fund raiser. When I first bought my hack I was still using my wheelchair to get around. The lady at Motorvation asked if I needed a wheelchair carrier, I said no, but I guess they have one, at least they had one then.

Let me close this out, go to their web site, I'll be right back.

I'm back.

Their site is http://www.motorvation.com/
give them a call, they're nice folks and can probably help you out. If you mention me, they know me as Bobby Tefft, not Hack.

There is a guy in the Hickory, NC area with a Sporty with a custom side car on it that has a drop gate. He rides up in it and latches down his chair. He has the controls angled over in front of him. He operates the bike from his chair. He really gets around. I have seen him in Myrtle on it as well as in Hickory.

hello,

We once rigged a trike for a friend of ours who was paralyzed from the waist down. As you understand everything was redirected to the had controls. And lots of padding for his ulcer attracting butt bone. He also had a colostomy which allowed him to go further between necessary bathroom breaks. We also rigged up an old Cordoba with hand controls too. So handicapped as he was, he was living la vida loco!!

Unfortunately he is deceased. Unfortunately being handicapped didn't stop him from living the fast life.

xxxflhrci,

Wow, that sounds cool and very practical. Otherwise I wonder how effective a paralyzed person would be trying to muscle a sidecar from the motorcycle. I am not ignorant in fact I am very well experienced w/ handicapped people wanting to ride. I have been known to tape my friend, at his request, to my sissy bar and foot pegs and off we would go. I know that paralyzed folks from the waist down have to take special care about decupitus ulcers and I wonder how controlling a sidecar from the motorcycle would impact that. Does your freind have power steering to go with those juice brakes?

badinfluence,

I do not know the man with the sidehack for his chair, but have talked to him and looked pretty hard at his rig. He did not have powersteering. He had the bars on extensions that just put them in front of him. I guess he just did a push/pull thing to control it.

He is not the only guy that I have saw that rides or the most determined. We have a local attorney that rides or did the last time I talked to him. He has been in a wheel chair all of his life and has limited use of his hands as far as grip goes. At the time, I was talking to him he had his service dog, aGolden Retriever named Benny with him. He saw my HD shirt and said that he rode. He explained that he had a Honda 750 with an auto tranny and a custom build side car. He said Benny got in the front and then he rolled in behind the dog and latched his chair down. He told me he had ridden his from Va to Florida. I was very impressed with his determination.

I used to work in N. Houston and would watch this guy ride by almost every morning in his hack. Hanlebars mounted on the frontof the hack w/tierod to forks, a ramp that closed behind him and a hand shift with clutch lever mounted to right side of bike. Rain or shine, he was riding.

I'd say he was hard-core.
