I am not a fan of this setup Went to the gas station and am in turn lane...trike dies. Do you think I could get it started again? NO! Turned switch off, clutch in and nothing. Rocked it back and forth..nothing. Cars behind me patiently waiting...had to go around. Finally, put in neutral, turned key on and the damn thing started. Now, I am coming home from the dealer later in the day and stopped at a light. Let out the clutch and trike dies again...SOB Same secenio....cars behind me can't go anywhere. Ten toes (reverse) to get to side of road. Hit the starter button...nothing. Turned switch off and back on...nothing. Wiggle the 'smart alarm' fob. Put in neutral, hit the starter button and fired up. Is this a common occurence, or am I letting out the clutch and not enough throttle? Do I need to study the owner's manual?
With the throttle setup...does the trike have to be in neutral?
I dont think that the throttle has anything to do with your problem!
It could be as simple as the bike security system not detecting the security FOB because of a weak battery or poor connection.
Jim
Jim,
Should I plug in the battery tender? TG sat in garage for a week without starting. Is this something I need HD Service to look at? (The key fob was in my pocket.)
Not the bikes battery Barb, the security fob battery. But that is just a guess. By your explanation I too doubt that it's the throttle causing the problem.
Is the bike still stock with no modifications? If so>>
The ECM for the fuel setup is set so lean that once your bike is hot its stumbling because of the added weight of the trike kit. Mine would be sluggish too until I got the PC V ( Not trying to promote the Power Commander stuff ) which gave me a fantastic throttle response even when the motor is hot.
For the bike not re-starting you stated that it was in gear both times when it stalled
The bike is setup to not start when the transmision is engaged. You have to remember to put it nuetral before trying to re-start
I haven't heard that yet (not being able to start unless in neutral) but it wouldn't surprise me. Well, maybe it would just a little.
I know there is a switch that the clutch lever has to push inside the left switch housing. I think that started in 07 didn't it? But I didn't know it wouldn't start while in gear.
As long as you have the clutch pulled in, it should start in 1st gear. I have the smart siren on mine and you have to start it in gear or at least turn the ignition on while in gear and then put it in neutral or the siren will sound.
