Default How much does a 750 engine weigh?

Like the title says, does anyone know how much an xg750 or xg750a engine weighs? Just the engine.

I did some digging to answer my own question...

On Ebay, I found an ad for an XG750 engine. Strapped to a pallet & wrapped in plastic, the shipping weight was 178lbs. A google search showed those pallets weighing between 33-48 lbs. The pallet in the ad was on the heavy side with particle board nailed to both sides & supports for the engine. I estimated the pallet & wrappings to be (roughly) 42 lbs.

The shipping weight minus the estimated pallet weight yields an estimated engine weight of:

136lbs +/- 5lbs

The engine in the ad did NOT include: exhaust, intake parts, starter, or ignition parts. Draw your own conclusions for a total weight.

I was wondering the same thing and also wondering why these bikes are so heavy. How in the work does XG750A weigh 525 pounds? Where does all that weight come from?

My 2015 750 Street weight is 486 dry. When you add up the wheels, tires frame it adds up fast. 136 pounds would not surprise me

Where does all the weight come from?

Steel Frame, steel forks, steel swing arm, dual shocks, huge ugly exhaust system, It all adds up.

I had to google a SRX600, everything on that bike looks appropriately sized and designed with purpose. Nothing bulkier than it needs to be (it makes a nice looking bike too). Our Street Rods... built like a truck!

I've been researching powerplants to use for a light-sport aircraft or kit plane build & the 750 is a front-runner currently. Good weight, good power, fuel injected, water cooled, compact, smooth running with the balance shaft, easy to work on, & cheap!

SRX600 is a truly odd and rare bike here in the USA. The engine a kick-start 600cc four-valve single with two progressive carburetors – A slider primary and CV secondary. The chassis is a one-off design with many parts and pieces borrowed from other stock Yamaha bikes of the period.About 1,000 were imported into the USA in 1986 and most sat on showroom floors for many months or longer. Many were purchased for competition and were modified, raced, crashed, destroyed, and discarded. Very few remain registered and working here in the USA.

This bike (#238) was purchased March 10, 1987 from Don George’s Sports Center in Clarence, NY (near Buffalo) for $2,160 ($4,870 in 2019 dollars). Most all parts on the bike are genuine Yamaha and period-correct. This bike has been modified as follows:
  • Stock airbox removed to fit dual-tuned intake system 1
  • Intake runners tuned to 2nd, 3rd, and 4th harmonics 2
  • Stock 27mm carbs with Dynojet Stage 3 jetting
  • Stock muffler replaced with SuperTrapp slip-on
  • 27 pounds of parts and pieces removed
  • Small lightweight 3.3 AH SLA battery
  • Progressive Suspension fork springs
  • Proper Static Sag and Race Sag
  • Larger front counter sprocket
  • Triple-Disc brakes are stock
  • DeCarbon shocks are stock
  • K&N crankcase breather
  • K&N pod intake filters
  • Weighs 361 pounds

1 Primary side is smaller/longer and secondary side is bigger/shorter
2 This intake system is designed and tuned to enhance power from 3,500 RPM to 7,000 RPM. 2nd harmonic tuning results in 10% pulse strength and up to +4 PSIG on the intake side. The effect is the same as a small supercharger/turbocharger over narrow RPM range. For this system 2nd harmonic occurs between 5,700 and 7,100 RPM.
