Bit of a difference between MotoGP and riding a Harley or any big Cruiser. Feather Braking both back and front is very important and of course you need to match your Revs to your speed. I've done over 300,000 ks in peak hour traffic on both a large motorcycle and Bicycle and I can tell you that knowing how to use both brakes in those circumstances is very important, plus I dont want to just downshift and NAIL the tranny and motor. If you do, your got more money then me mate.

I come from a road racing background, which I realize is odd in the HD world, but the MotoGP guys don't rev-match/downshift/use and tune engine braking to precise amounts because it sounds cool on TV...they do it because it is the best way to ride a motorcycle safely, quickly, with the most control.
Oh no, someone that actually knows what he is talking about. Are you sure your on the right forum? I can only wonder what the grease monkeys are going to say about this comment.

What will we say? Vstate60 and I are not in disagreement on correct technique, only in the semantics of how I chose to explain it.

But, we'll all still say you don't have the first clue...

What I didn't understand was that you say downshift most of the time and replace your rear brakes at 5 k. I downshift most of the time and replaced all three at 25k and they were only half gone?

How do you slow down?

How long is a piece of string

Front brakes
Back brakes
Both brakes
Motor as a brake
Sometimes just letting off the throttle

One thing for sure - if I need to stop quick - I'm using everything I can reach.., grab..., twist.., press..., or stomp

Like I stated above, I am also on a drill team, therefor my back breaks take a beating. Thanks for the reply.

"I am on a drill team and we were trained by an ex-motorcycle policeman on how to ride."

Probably another "Ride Like A Pro" alumni. Seems that these days you can learn how to ride a motorcycle by watching a video!

Ron, I'm trying not to be a hater here, but I guess I must have missed something. You state that you have all this experience under your belt and will put your skills up against anyone, yet you post here asking a question that would usually come from a novice rider. What do you think most people are going to conclude? And especially after your "road rage" video? Again not trying to be a hater......just asking a legitimate question.
