That's Michael Angelo. His real name is Michael Batio, and he used to be in a band called Nitro. I went to his guitar clinic at a local music store. He was a funny and real down to earth guy. He can play the hell out of the guitar!!
Yeah he's been doing that for a long time, that double guitar thing. Sadly, there is really no good music that can be used to showcase that type of talent.
The production of that video absolutely stumps me though. No one is going to watch that for the tunes. No one is going to watch that because that's their favorite band. They are going to watch because this guy has unbelievable talent AND has worked unbelievably hard to develop it. That was a well-choreographed performance there as much as a musical performance. He has practiced the movements as much for style as getting the right notes played. That makes it yet even MORE impressive.
So why the jittery camera, constantly moving, constantly switching angles, etc??? It was chaotic. Basically, people that want to watch his technique, can't. There were almost as many cuts as there were notes . . . and geez . . .there were a lot of notes. I'd love to see that same performance with a more "boring" production.
It is a little frustrating knowing that I'll never be that good at anything. But I'm sure it comes at a cost. Who knows, maybe he can't even tie his shoes ;-) Seriously though, I bet he has made a lot of sacrifices most of us wouldn't make to get that good.
