Crazy, too much chance of an accident, should be illegal . I'm glad it is here. Is the far left lane a passing lane? Almost looks like one of those carpool lanes.

I felt the same way until I moved here. The wide angle lens of the camera makes it seem like I'm moving faster than I really am. There was only one vehicle I had to leave the lane for...the red Dodge Ram at 1:52. Everyone else makes room for bikes here...it's pretty rare that someone impedes my way.
That far left lan at the end is the HOV lane. It starts about 10 miles into my commute.
Here's a good article on the California perspective.
I can see how it would be convenient, but its kind of a natural tendency for someone to accidently turn the steering wheel one way or the other when they look to the side or turn their head partially around like when trying to reach something down the side of the seat (doorside) which might make the car actually turn a little in the lane, but they are still staying within the white lines. Nothing intentional but still that could cause a bike shooting between cars, even at a slower speed, to collide with a car. To me, taking that kind of risk isn't worth the reward. Here in Ohio many of the lanes (not interstate) are pretty narrow and sometimes if you lane split your mirrors are darned close to those you are passing. Any deviation in their forward progress making them move a bit to the right or to the left could be disastrous for a passing bike. I read this once- "We are invisible, we can be broken, we are brittle against the cage". A bike hits a car and the bike loses nearly everytime. I hope you never experience that. Best of luck!
