After I installed PCV, bike is hard to start. Got lazy and replaced battery w/o testing it and new battery didn't solve issue. Removed PCV and bike starts fine. Can PCV have an affect on bike startup? Thanks for any help
Assuming the PCV map is correct, try starting the bike immediately after powering it up before the CEL goes out. Once the CEL goes out, the system goes to sleep, then it needs to see the crank signal which is intercepted by the PC so there is a delay.
Thanks Ed - The map should be correct. I just have a stage 1 and the map listed the exact add-ons that I have. If it does start right up, is this something I will just have to do every time or do you think there is an adjustment I can make? Thanks again!
From the pic, it seems you may be close to the build I originally had on my 2013 FLHTK, V&H Power Duals & Monster Rounds, SE Air Cleaner & Filter, Power Commander V.
I ran program M15-011-064, what program do you have loaded?
At 750 RPM to 1500 -064 adds 2 points at 0% throttle which slightly enriches the startup. The following is -064 compared to -002, Top row is Throttle % open and left column is RPM Hope it comes thru...
-064 is leaner in some areas so you want to listen for pre-ignition ping. I have used the Accelerator Pump Utility to eliminate ping. From Power Commander Site:
The Power Commander V has a feature called Accel Pump. This gives you the ability to add, or remove fuel for a short time when the throttle is moved quickly. The three options need to be configured to accomplish what you want to achieve.
Trigger is the amount of throttle movement. A value of 20 means if the throttle is quickly moved 20 percent or more, the Accel Pump is activated.
Duration is the length of time the Accel Pump would be active. For example a value of 83 would give about one second of fuel at 5000 rpm, and two seconds of fuel at 2500 rpm.
Fuel Adjustment is the percent of fuel to add, or remove. Positive numbers add fuel, negative numbers remove fuel Power Commander Accessory Issues
Ed you were right. If i hit the starter before ECL goes out it starts right up. Is there an adjustment i can make to fix this? Thanks!
Glad I could help.
No, you can't change the way it works - that is a function of the factory ECM needing to see the Crank signal. When you key up, the system is awake and ready to go. When it doesn't see the crank signal, things shut down in the EFI system. Then when you crank, the PC interrupts the crank signal that is needed to fire up the factory EFI. If the PC was not there, the factory ECM would see the signal immediately. Just hit the starter before the light goes back out and you should be ok.
