Need Tachometer Help
48 low jet
190 high jet
did not shim the needle
I borrowed a Sears combination Volt Meter/Tachometer/Dwell/Ohm meter and I need to know how to connect it to the bike and read the RPM's. I just changed the pipes, jetted the carb, and installed an SE air filter. Many thanks to the contributors on this site. I could not have done it and I would have been to afraid to try without all of the adviced I found on this site.
My Wide Glide does not have a tachometer and I need to adjust the idle to 1000 before making mixture adjustments. My problem is that I cannot figure out how to use the volt/tach Meter. I know th tach works because we connected it to a 1988 S10 pick up truck. The black wire was connected to a good ground. The red wire was connected to the coil wire with no voltage. I tried this on the wide glide but I could not figure out which of the three wires needed to be connected to the red lead on the tach/volt meter.
FYI. I know the idle is too high at this time but it it seems to run fine when I take it on the road. No missing, coughing or spitting.
Thanks,
Haywood
