Mornin y'all not sure if i'm on the right track here but here goes. I own a 1983 ironhead 1000 and while i was on my way home from work the other day it strted cutting out, losing power. it would restart but then die once i started to gea up then it wouldnt start anymore. I checked gas battery volage a solid 12.9 also my lights horn etc all work and do not go dim.At this point i decided to check for fire i found that there is power to both poles, terminals on the coil bit no voltage is coming from the wires. I have pulled the POS revtech module and checked the magnets and rotor all seemed in good order so i reinstalled it. The status light blinks red and as i mentioned there is power coming to the coil. i was wondering if i am on the right track and need to purchase a coil or is there more i need to check .Thanks in advance.
let's run a redneck test.
pull the primary wires off the coil
pull plugs and lay them where you can see them fire, use inline tester or timing light
attach a ground jumper to one side of the coil
take 12vdc and flash the input to the coil, plugs should fire if the coil is good.
this process will diff with coil design and s/d fire setup but the picture is there
if the plugs fire, look closely at the module as the output transistors maybe bad, aka, module is toast.
not familiar with revtec module will have to do a look-see!
Howdy Bustert, Storm here. Finally had a chance to test the coil like you layed out and there is no fire to either plug so i went ahead and ordered a new coil. i sure do thank you for taking the time to help me with that.
