Tried to find a thread that would help me and didn't have any luck. Hope I didn't miss an obvious one. I'm currently in the process of trying to identify/find/get to the end of figuring out what fuel management system is on my bike. I bought it used and the previous owner didn't tell me. Asked the dealership he bought it from and they didn't have a record of it. Here's what I know... Under my seat there is a grey ECM plug. Problem is it's facing down into whatever it's plugged into and all the wiring under my seat is a bit of a mess. I've looked around as much as I can without removing the battery box and electrical box and can't see any kind of module down there. I am going to start trying to dig through the wires under my seat to see if there's anything there. Obviously the easiest solution would just be to remove the electrical box to look behind it. Does unplugging the ECM pose any issues? It won't reset whatever map it's currently set to or anything?
Hope this is making sense...I'm just learning about this stuff now. Not home right now but can send pictures when I'm home if that will help me make sense.
Thanks in advance.
EDIT: just saw that this should have been posted in the Dyno forum....If the powers that be could move it that would be great.
Through a small opening in the electrical box I saw a part number that tells me it's a Power Commander 3. Now to figure out how to access the usb port........
I ran a PCIII 12 years ago; leaves a lot to be desired compared to current tuners. Spending the $$ for a proper dyno tune would improve the performance, regardless of the level of modification. You will need a flash tuner like the Power Vision or find a tuner that sells licenses. No harm if the PC is unplugged; the ECM has not been "flashed" by the PC so the factory tune is still "live" in the ECM.
