Strange spark behavior
Hi,
I'm having problems with 2005 Softail. It had last summer difficulties firing up sometimes and after winter it just wont start. Problem is missing spark. Sometimes it gives good spark and sometimes nothing. We have tried lot of things now. We have tried new plugs, coil, replaced grounds, relays, fuses, ecm and crank position sensor. But problems consists. And strange this is that when I press start button first time I don't get spark. Toggling button quickly multiple times I start getting good spark. Any ideas where to look next? It feels like grounding problem...

Plugs must be installed. You must use an inline spark tester or kV meter. This is for two reasons. 1) The system is designed so that it must see change in flywheel speed on compression to know which cylinder is ready to fire and 2) It takes more energy to fire spark under compression - holding the plug against the block is an invalid test.
