Ed, yeah bike Is Delphi EFI. I leave plugs in wires and pull them from cylinders, grab wires at base of plugs with insulated pliers, hold to a ground on bike while hitting starter, and look for spark on plug. Not sure what you meant by installed? In cylinder?
ECM determines which cylinder is #1 by the rpm slow down that occurs during the compression stroke. Spark plugs must be installed for compression to occur. With no compression, no spark. All of your efforts to detect spark without plugs installed in cylinders was all for naught.
More than likely, your ET sensor code is caused by wire breakage inside the insulation most often right at the sensor connection.
Listen to what Ed has been telling you.

Delphi bikes are designed to have the plugs installed in the cylinders when checking for spark. The computer sees the slowdown of the flywheel and triggers the coil.
In addition, checking for spark in open air is nothing like checking for spark under compression. A proper spark test is with the plug under compression and an additional spark tester installed in line.
The system relay doesn't differentiate between front and rear coils.

I did listen to Ed and checked wiring at the connectors and wherever they were exposed and checked pins. Did not find any breaks or cuts. I get what you are saying about proper spark test, but I was just trying to get a visual whether I was getting any spark. Before I changed the system relay (which I had a two trouble codes) I got a spark very intermittently. After changing, I got spark every time I hit the starter and that was with the plug out of the cylinder. I dont claim to be good a bike mechanic. I could not get bike to start at all. Now it is starting and sounds good. Will se how it rides when these rains pass. Other than broken wiring, what do you all think the problem was based on everything done? Bad relay? Bad coil? I did not fix any wiring. Can bad relay only affect parts of the circuit they are controlling?
